Verifying your business information on local online directories is an important piece to expanding your virtual real estate and improving your website SEO. If you are our client, we have manually claimed and verified these directory listings with our Local Visibility program. We’ve even given you the logins to each business profile that has your information on it. But what happens if the information gets changed back? Who’s going to catch that?
Dominoes, anyone? Online data aggregators such as Factual, Localeze, Infogroup, and Acxiom continually scrape the internet for the most up-to-date name, address, and phone number (NAP) information and push that data to hundreds of directory sites they partner with. Sometimes, wrong information can be picked up as “new” and pushed out, resulting in some of those directory sites changing the information that has already been corrected. It’s like a game of runaway dominoes!
At Local Net Results, our Location Management program keeps eyes on the internet for you. Catching wrong NAP info soon enough can prevent that chain reaction. We could activate our Local Visibility program once a year, but that’s overkill. Chances are, only a few directory listings may have changed. So, what we provide our clients instead is a monthly monitoring program that allows us to track current business information and maintain NAP consistency.
Okay, this is very boring, but… You can access your company’s directory management portal any time. You are able to check the status of these listings, store all your logins in one place, and view month-to-month progress reports on over 50 local online directories. It’s a pretty cool tool! We will also periodically submit your correct information to the major data aggregators – rather than waiting for those aggregators to pick up and push wrong information.
What’s the catch? As with any local online marketing, some of it is out of our control. A few directories are paid listings – which will not allow free submissions. Some directories have formed partnerships – unless you are in their program, they will not change information. Some directories had been verified in the past, and will not allow any future changes. New directories are coming online all the time. We try for 100% consistency. We are happy with 80% to 90%.
